Thoughts on Staying at Home due to COVID-19…

Staying at home is the best thing we all could do to stop spreading COVID-19 and to save lives.  It will not only help others but will prevent you from being affected by the corona disease as well. However, it has its pros and cons.

Staying at home has given us more time to connect closely with our family. While my father was going out to work, we didn’t have much family time in our house but since this covid-19 outbreak it has given us plenty of time to spend together with our family. Fortunately, now we have enough time to talk each other, and to do fun stuff. Since this outburst of COVID-19, we have been watching movies, playing chess, cleaning our house, and doing some cooking together. Staying at home not only gives us family time but it also made our lives simple just by eating what we have at home. We never ate junk shop food or other unhealthy stuff during the period. Instead of outdoor food we ate previously, now we eat only the food indispensable for survival and food that develops immunization in you.

Apart from all those, this follows with dullness as there is nothing to do at home. Even if you have more family time, sometimes, that too becomes uninteresting at times. So, you will be then left with nothing to do. Although you sometimes hate being given unaccompanied (isolated) time because you feel bored, at times, it would be advantageous for you to think and plan your future towards your ambitions.

During this ‘stay at home’ period, some of our tuition teachers have started their virtual classes which is beneficial in terms of cost and time.  That saved us some additional money spared for travelling, petrol, and junk food.  Moreover, it saves us our valuable hours wasted having been stuck in traffic. The disadvantage of having these virtual classes is that we miss our fun snack breaks we have with friends, and fun jokes we shared during the after school extra-curricular activity time. Above all, we lose our fitness without doing a sport we loved.

Although this staying at home is like an extended holiday, with assignment work given by school, this holiday comes too long with some tediousness.  But this long holiday gave us new thoughts of toys and games you can do while staying at home. It not only gave you new concepts to play with but also gave you new interests to do in your unrestricted time. It showed you lots of alternative stuff to do like reading books, creating arts and crafts, singing, playing chess etc.

Though there are a lot of positive points in staying at home, there are a few shortcomings which make you uninterested, annoyed, and make you feel isolated. There will be no chances for vocal collaborations with companions or cousins or close people. There will be no chances for visual contacts with friends unless you use FaceTime on net. To do this you will need proper signals, a smartphone, and enough data. It will be very costly to have all those and for some children these things will be unaffordable amenities. During this lockdown period some parents have lost their jobs, and some have gone through salary cut-offs. Since most parents are going through a tough period financially, these facilities have become unaffordable. Thus, these children will have no interaction with others except their siblings and parents.

Another thing that would make you bored inevitably is your daily routine which repeats identically. I, sometimes, forget the day and the date as everyday it gives me the same experience

For me, this lockdown is not that deprived because my mother makes lovely desserts with limited ingredients we have at home and my father makes finest and delectable meals sometimes.  My grandmother adds snacks to nibble on while I am bored or hungry at odd times.

This lockdown has made us manage our household chores without depending on a maid. I have started to clean my own plate and get what I want by myself without asking my mother or father to carry out things for me.

This has increased our emotions towards our close companions as now we know that is dreary and unlivable when we are deprived of them as they are the people who cheer us up and keep us energetic. To me, this COVID-19 is not that merciless after all, even though it has its pros and cons, it was obliging in some ways.
